A Bit About Me

I’m Simone, a visual artist born in Belo Horizonte — a city that carries beauty even in its name. Since childhood, I’ve been fascinated by the act of observing: people, colors, gestures, and the small moments of everyday life. I’ve always loved drawing and capturing the world in my own way. The starry sky, the sunset, and the sunrise, with their vivid and fleeting colors, have always moved me deeply.

Self-taught by nature, I started painting at 15, encouraged by a friend and driven by curiosity. Without formal training, but with a strong desire, I began to portray in paint the objects of my memories and observations.

I grew up in a favela, at a time when there was no pavement, sanitation, or electricity. Even so, life was there — and it’s that life I bring to my canvases. My works are made of memories from a simple and joyful daily life.

Orange is a constant color in my work: it represents the exposed brick of the houses and the reddish soil that shaped the landscape of my childhood. The clothes hanging on the lines, dancing in the wind and sun, are also vivid marks in my visual memory.

My childhood was lived with great creativity, alongside my four siblings. We flew kites, pushed carts made from fruit crates, and only returned home when my mother came back from work — always covered in dirt from head to toe. Life was simple, full of limitations, but rich in affection, imagination, and joy. That’s what I try to eternalize in every brushstroke.
